Puddle Seal Information

Directions on How to Apply Puddle Seal Pit and Pond Sealer:

Site Prep: Pit or pond must have less than a 45 degree slope, it is preferred and recommended to
have a 3:1 slope (three feet horizontal to one foot vertical: as stated by the Railroad Commission in
the surface waste management manual, Chapter IV, Pit Design and Construction, and as required on
TCEQ for soil embankments for slope stabilization). Pit should be free of foreign materials, such as
brush, trees and large rocks. It is also preferred and recommended for base and sidewalls to be back
dragged and /or compacted with a roller system.

Application:
Disk soil to a depth of 6-8 inches. Apply Puddle Seal granules using a uniform spreader at a rate of 1/2 to 1 pound per 15 to 25 square feet of disked soil depending on soil type. Disk soil again to a depth of 4 inches.
Apply Puddle Seal granules using a uniform spreader at a rate of 1/2 to 1 pound per 15 to
25 square feet of disked soil depending on soil type. Use smooth drum roller to compact entire site. 2 complete passes is recommended for maximum potential compaction, Apply a layer of water using a water truck to activate the top layer of product.
Fill site with water as soon as possible after application
When filling pit or pond direct water flow onto a tile or cement pad so as to minimize
erosion or wash outs.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Q) How long will the product last?

A) The longest standing tank was done on a ranch eight years ago as part of the testing
of the product Puddle Seal. The lined tank, designed for agricultural use, continues
to be a viable tank today.

R) How long does the tank have to stay dry before it begins to breakdown?

A) If Puddle Seal is subjected to extended periods without moisture, the degradation
process will begin, which is somewhere between 6-12 months, depending upon
climate conditions.

S) Is there anything that will breakdown the liner system?

A) The liner was designed to with stand contact with Hydrocarbons, acidic material
and products commonly used in the drilling process. To our knowledge the only
known chemical to affect the liner is 15% content or higher of any oxidizer, such
as chlorine, which should never come in contact at that high of a ratio with the
liner.

T) Are there any special requirements for the pit/tank in preparation to be lined?

A) The ideal pit would have sidewalls of the pit at a 3 to 1 slope and will have been
back dragged and perforated with a roller punch, but needs to have no more than a
65 degree slope, in order for the product to be able to have a surface to sit on.

U) How will rocks affect the liner?

A) Puddle Seal will form up around and bond to any rocks remaining in the pit and
will use the rocks as part of the actual liner.

V) How is the liner applied?

A) Puddle Seal is applied with industrial spreaders and/or the use of a pressurized
hopper vessel and compressor system where the product is blown into place at
desired thickness.

W) How soon does the tank need to be filled?

A) As part of the application process the product will go through a “post-wet”
application, where the product is sprayed with water to activate the product and
solidify its location so that the elements will not affect the liners integrity. It is
recommended and preferred the tank be filled immediately upon application.

X) What is needed to activate Puddle Seal?

A) Puddle Seal is a water soluble product and is designed to activate upon contact
with either fresh or brine water.

Y) What happens if the pit/tank is dry for a period of 30 days or longer?

A) Upon dehydration of Puddle Seal, the liner, will crack and separate; however, upon
contact with any type of hydration the product will reactivate and bond back
together, re-forming the monolithic coating.

Q) How does animal traffic affect the liner?

A) Puddle Seal has an elasticity and durability strength to it that will allow the product
to compress under un-uniform pressure and come back to its original posture.
